welcome

welcome to my new blog - this is something new for me so maybe i won't be any good at it but i do think it worthwhile to memorialize this life that i have found myself in.

you may wonder why i chose a biblical reference as the name. well, for those of you who don't have your Bibles in your laps, 1 chronicles 29:15 says we are here for only a moment, visitors and strangers in the land as our ancestors were before us. our days on earth are like a shadow, gone so soon without a trace. i do feel like a stranger in a strange land. two and half years ago we moved our family to Brazil to work with the indigenous (that's the politically correct word for indian) languages. all of a sudden i realized that i had become a DP (displaced person) with a strange accent, weird clothes and no idea how to order a meal at the local fast food joint. i wanted so badly to fit in, to know instinctively what was going on around me, to be able to speak to anyone i wanted to. but more so, to be known and to know others. then it dawned on me that i could really relate to all the verses in the Bible about God's people being foreigners in this world. i began to see how this world really should not be our home but that we ought to remember that we are just passing through, with a small window of opportunity to affect those around us.

so i hope to share some of the experiences we have had living in another country with tidbits of what it is like being a mom to my 3 kids and a wife to my traveling husband.

please feel free to leave comments and ask questions - those who know me well will tell you that i will tell it like it is and i don't get easily offended...more on that another time.
